'HOMME 1982 Été' Cotton T-Shirt from Comme des Garçons Homme, Spring/Summer 1982. It has the original Comme des Garçons Homme logo printed on the back. While the T-shirt looks as simple as it can be, the texture of the gray cotton is quite unusual. It is in great condition, except for a flaw on the front side of the collar.
The Comme des Garçons Homme line started in 1978 and is still alive today. The branding was different from what we know today until the birth of the Homme Plus line for Spring/Summer 1985. Many artists have worn garments from this particular era of the Homme line, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat. Rei Kawakubo was in charge of the Homme line until 1990 when Keiichi Tanaka took over: she was therefore behind the confection of this particular piece.
Having the brand logo printed on the back of of the T-shirt may look familiar as it is a concept that has been used time and time again by Comme des Garçons. However, this is the oldest instance of it that I have ever seen (aside from a potential collaboration with Fruit of the Loom in 1978, which had a small front logo if I remember correctly). This is as authentic as it can be - the very first, original Comme des Garçons logo T-shirt. The practice was further legitimized during the Homme Plus Spring/Summer 1986 show as the staff coat with Comme des Garçons Homme Plus printed on the back was presented on the runway as a piece of this collection.
