"A-POC" is an acronym for "A Piece of Cloth" and refers too, to the idea of "epoch." It is a manufacturing method that uses computer technology to create clothing from a single piece of thread in a single process. Development began in 1997 as a project led by Issey Miyake and engineering designer Dai Fujiwara and the first results were presented in Paris for Issey Miyake, Spring/Summer 1999. Fujiwara was later appointed creative director of Issey Miyake, in October 2006.
Made in collaboration with industrial designer James Dyson, the collection, titled 'The Wind', features clothes designed to engage in a playful interaction with the wind. They were inspired by Dyson’s vacuum cleaner technology and engineering drawings. With this collection, Dai Fujiwara has blown a wind of freshness, bringing a propos poetry to the concern with global warming and making a statement of hope: fashion has an optimistic vision of the future.
