Bleached rayon sweater from Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, Autumn/Winter 1993. The black rayon has been bleached at the bottom to create a beautiful, contrasting yellow shade. It is oversized and comfortable, perfectly suited to wear in every situation. It is also particularly long. It is in great condition, but it has been used in the past.
For the first time, the theme was set out as a phrase. The title was "Artist in his Studio." Using art as a pretext for the dyeing technique, the dyed material was then decolourized using chemicals and a delicate contrast was given by the time difference of soaking in the chemicals. It was a display of the technology of Comme des Garçons and of the artistic talent of Rei Kawakubo. Robert Rauschenberg of Neo-Dada, also the founder of combine painting which involves joining together abstract images with realistic objects, and Jim Haynes, an art writer with in-depth expertise, were models amongst others.
