Emerging from the punk music scene of the 1970s, Raymond Pettibon began drawing in what has become his signature style in the 1980s. Pettibon combines figurative ink wash drawings with text, in some delivering sharp one liners while in others he builds up more dense and complex narratives, making more oblique comments. Pettibon tackles the big issues of religion and politics, sex and conflict with humour and directness.

レイモンド ペティボン

1970年代にパンク・ミュージック・シーンで有名になったレイモンドペティボンは、80年代からドローイングを描き始め、独特のスタイルを築き上げた。インクウォッシュの具象画にテキストを組み合わせたもので、シャープな一文を添えるときもあれば、重厚で複雑な物語を作り上げて婉曲的なメッセージを盛り込む作品もある。 いずれもユーモアと辛辣な表現を通して宗教や政治、性、対立といった社会問題を鋭く批判している。
